The Man-target, the Target of Man

The Man-target, the Target of Man - Ziarul de duminică, 11 June 2004

The recent exhibition of Andrei Ciubotaru at the Prometheus Club Gallery marked out a new stage in the creation of the young artist. Concerned with the human figure, with the expressive valences of the portrait approached in an Existentialist manner, the painter tries to catch man's profound essence by altering his features, mutilating, even dislocating, decomposing and recomposing them with an imprevisible pictorial violence. In fact, the symbolic title, Man-target, the Target of Man, suggests the idea of individual freedom, seen by Sartre as "the freedom of a crucified slave."
